All Corona regulations are lifted in Switzerland – see below. –

With the SHIBARI MASTERCLASSES we present excellent contemporary shibari artists from Europe
and beyond to the advanced shibari community in Zurich. For this issue of the series we are
very glad to again invite TAMANDUA from Berlin, his approach being “a mix between more
’classical’ erotic japanese semenawa (tormenting rope) and the wildly deconstructed
styles of some European riggers” together with his rope partner Briki from Stockholm.

This weekend Tamandua – joined by partner Briki – will come to Zürich for a suspension and play-focused rope workshop on Saturday & Sunday. They will teach a mix of fairly simple and challenging ways of tying based on some of Tamandua's currently most frequently used ties.

On Friday – which can serve as a good intro to the rest of the weekend but can also be booked separately, open to anyone with any experience in tying and/or getting tied - Tamandua & Briki will focus on the body in ropes, thus approaching tying more from the rope bottom perspective and to create more body awareness for both, rigger and model.

On saturday & sunday – suitable for people with an intermediate up to an advanced experience level – each day will start with guided improvisation based exercises. This gives us time to bond with our partner and rope, while practicing what can be described as some of the more subtle, or intuitive skills relating to our tying. Before the lunch break these will be a pattern run through and technical practice of a suspendable harness: Tamandua’s hands-in-front harness on day 1 and his preferred way to tie Takate Kote on day 2.

In the afternoons we work on longer, complex full suspension shapes using the harnesses from the morning. These require a certain level of commitment from both rigger and model and can be rather challenging. To contrast these challenges there will also be the opportunity to learn a more straight forward, minimalist tie in the same afternoon.

Briki, a rope switch with deep knowledge of the body, originated in yoga and contemporary dance. The last few years, she has worked in the borderlands between performance art and the rope community. She is interested in power exchange, bottomhood, objectification, and the beauty of rope. In her rope life she is searching for sublime border states and sadomasochistic cooperations.
